2 journos attacked in Arghakhanchi

SANDHIKHARKA: Two journalists were assaulted by an unidentified gang in Sandhikharka, Arghakhanchi on Monday night. A group comprising five unidentified people attacked Ramesh Pokharel and Surya Prasad Bhusal on Monday night at 9 pm.

Pokharel is the news coordinator at Radio Deurali and local reporter for Sagarmatha Television. Bhusal is a newsreader at Radio Deurali. Different journalists' and media organisations based in the district, including the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Nepal Press Union, Press Chautari Nepal, Revolutionary Journalists Association, Yuba Patrakar Manch and Community Radio Deurali F.M. 101 MHz, condemned the attack on Pokharel and Bhusal.

Likewise, Tika Bista, a Rukum based correspondent of the Rajdhani national daily was attacked by an unidentified gang in Rukum district headquarters earlier.

ANNFSU shuts schools in Arghakhanchi

Sandhikharka - The CPN-UML student wing ANNFSU on Friday shut all schools in Arghakhanchi district to protest the attack on its cadres by Maoist students.

The All Nepal National Free Student Union called the closure against the thrashing of its cadre Shankar Poudel by the cadres of All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) while he was returning home from Surya Secondary School in Gokhunga on Thursday.

Police have detained Prakash Khanal, Bed Bahadur Hanjali and Lal Bahadur Khanal on suspicion of involvement in the attack.

The injured Poudel is being treated in Sandhikharka, the district headquarters.

Students from 3 dist in one school

KAPILVASTU - Students from three districts study in a school in Kapilvastu district.

Although the school is in Kapilvastu, students from Arghakhanchi and Dang districts also come to this school at Dhankhola of Shivagadhi VDC- 3 in the western part of the district, as it lies in the border of three districts.

In the school which has up to Class- 5, 40 students of Siddara VDC of Arghakhanchi and 50 of Gobardiha VDC of Dang come to study.

Roshan Ranamagar of Kalakate of Gobardiha VDC -1 in Dang said he came here as there is no school nearby his village.

Likewise, Binod Gharti Chhetri of Class-4, who came from Siddara of Arghakhanchi, said he came here as he had to walk more than two hours to reach a school in his own district, but can arrive here in half an hour.

Class-3 student Geeta Gurung said she came from Gobardiha, Dang, as she can have friends of not only one but many places.

School Principal Gangotri Prasad Mishra said even if the school is far from home, he felt pleasant because of the hard working students and love of the parents.

More than 250 students of six VDCs of three districts study here but the physical infrastructure of the school is not good. The school has raw plaster and tin roof.

Mishra called on the District Education Office Kapivalstu to allocate budget for repair of the school which is a model for teaching children of three districts.

'Fishy' deals

KAPILVASTU: Chandrauta Bazaar, one of the biggest trading centres in Kapilvastu district, has now turned into a hub for trade in fish and fish products. Traders earn enough money for the whole year by trading in fish just four months in winter. Chandrauta supplies fish to nearby Arghakhanchi and as far as Rolpa and Rukum.

Youth fights tiger in Arghakhanchi

Arghakhanchi: A 12th grader has fought off a tiger and saved his life in Panena VDC Ward No 7 in Arghakhanchi district. Bimal Pokharel fought off the tiger with the help of a sickle. He was attacked by the tiger while he was collecting firewood. Though he could save his life, he could not keep himself free from the harm. He was injured in the attack and is being treated in a local hospital.
